Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic or life-threatening events such as natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, or personal attacks. It's characterized by intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to the experience that last long after the traumatic event has ended. Individuals may relive the event through flashbacks or nightmares; they may feel sadness, fear, or anger; and they may feel detached or estranged from other people, or even experience disassociation.

Common signs and symptoms may also include severe anxiety and uncontrollable thoughts about the event. Individuals with PTSD may also experience mood swings, emotional numbness, and avoidance of situations that remind them of the trauma. The causes of PTSD can be varied, including combat exposure, physical assault, accidents, and natural disasters.

It's important to recognize that PTSD is not a sign of weakness. It is a neuropsychological response to extraordinarily stressful situations. Healing and recovery are possible with the right support and treatment.
